President Yameen have stated that the Maldives regrets the decision of the United States to withdraw from the Paris Agreement.
A statement released by the president says that, this decision by President Trump to withdraw from the Paris Agreement is a blow to the global efforts against climate change and it is also a setback for the multilateral process that is essential for governing the international community.
In addition, the president’s statement says that Maldives being one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change, Maldives is disappointed that the world’s largest economy and biggest historic emitter abdicated its responsibility on such a critical issue.
President assured that Maldives will continue its role as the voice of the nations most vulnerable to climate change and that Maldives will work with international partners to realize the promise of a healthy planet.
