Shifaa Muhammad has been elected as the mayor of Male’ City. She was the deputy Mayor in the previous term.
In the vote taken among the council members to elect a mayor, Shifa got 11 votes. Shamaau Shareef was elected the deputy mayor and he got 12 votes.
Council members took the oath of office in a ceremony held at Ghiyaasuhdheen School. The oath was administered by Supreme Court Judge Adam Muhammad Abdullah.
The newly elected council members said that they face many challenges and that they do not even have tables and chairs. They said however, they will still do their duties as council members.
