Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim have said that they have allocated money for coastal protection of Th.Vandhoo in the past three years, however no work has been done so far.
Answering to a question by MP Riyaz of Kinbidhoo constituency, the minister said that in 2014 and 2015 money was allocated for that project. He said that however, due to some changes in the forecasted state revenues, the government decided to put the project on hold. In addition, the minister said that the ministry allocated money for the project in 2016 budget as well but it was not approved in the budget passed by the parliament.
MP for Kinbidhoo, Abdullah Riyaz said that the project was not conducted even though it was written in the budget in 2014 and 2015. He said that the people of the island are worried as the island is prone to natural disasters as a result of coastal erosion.
