Have not committed any crimes intentionally – Do not think that I will be arrested: Maumoon
Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom have said that he has not committed any crimes intentionally and hence he do not believe that he will be arrested.

Speaking to the media after arriving to Maldives after staying abroad for more than 3 months, Maumoon said that he does not believe that any institutions will take action against him for being actively involved in politics.

Maumoon said that he takes part in activities after taking everything into consideration. He said that he is working for reform and is acting in the best interest of the people. He said that since these are issues of national interest these are not the responsibility of one person.

“These things are not being done against or for one specific person. This is for the nation. We will do whatever it takes in this regard and I will take part in it” said Maumoon.

In addition, he said that he goes abroad when he has to and he will live in Maldives. “ I am a Maldivian and Maldives is my country. I want to live in Maldives and with the will of Allah I will do so” said Maumoon.

President Maumoon said that he used taxi not because any specific person was hospitable towards him. “My trip was a private trip. All expenses were covered by my family. Hence will have to use taxi as well” said Maumoon. In addition, he said that the laws ensure privileges to former presidents and these privileges are not ensured by the government because they are not able to obey the law.
