Maldives Police Service has amended regulations making it possible to send summon orders via social media.
Under the amended regulations, if police is not able to reach anyone physically, then the summon orders will be sent via social media. If the message gets delivered or is ‘seen’ then it will be considered as delivered. Police stated that, these orders should be obeyed and if living abroad the recipients should go to the police station within 7 days. If anyone is not able to attend within the given time, they should inform the police why they are not able to do so.
Meanwhile, few weeks back police have sent summon orders to some Maldivians living abroad. The ordered were publicized on police website and on twitter.
