Maldives National Disaster Management Center has handed over equipment to MNDF that will help MNDF to improve their response capabilities during disasters.
In a ceremony held at Kalhuthuhkalaakoshi today, the equipment were officially handed over by Fathimath Thasneem Ali the deputy defense minister. Abdullah Zuhuree the CO of MNDF fire and rescue service, accepted the equipment on behalf of MNDF.
The equipment was donated to Maldives under a non-project grant aid of the Japanese government. This is a two-phase project. The equipment that were given today were the first two shipments of the first phase of the project. The total cost of the project is 9.9 million dollars. These equipment include 70 pump center and 4 fork lifts.
Today’s ceremony was attended by Defense Minister Adam Shareef Umar, Japanese Ambassador to Maldives HE Kazumi Ando, Vice Chief of Defense Force Brigadier General Ahmed Shahid, general officers, heads of units and senior officials of the disaster management center.
