MP for Feridhoo constituency Hussein Muhammad have said that it is not right for the government to conduct projects on islands forcefully.
Hussein Muhammad said that the council of Maamigili was elected by the people and hence it is unjust for the government to conduct projects in Maamigili without consulting with the council. He said that even thought the government has the authority, they should be civil about it. He said that it is the best practice to consult with the council and the people if the government wants to conduct a project.
MP Hussein said that lately the government does not consult before doing anything. He said that the government is doing whatever they want and this can be seen in the development project of Maamigili International Port as well.
The government says that the councils do not cooperate however, what can be seen is that the government is using their authority to do what they want without consulting the public. Abdullah Mufeed is the president of Maamigili council, however he was not able to contact any senior government officials regarding this matter.
