Governor of MMA Azeema Adam have said that housing sector needs to be developed for the development of Maldives.
She made this statement while speaking at the opening ceremony of Maldives Financial Expo 2017. Speaking at the ceremony she called the banks operating in Maldives to introduce housing loans at low rates.
In addition, she spoke about the theme of this year’s expo. She said that housing theme was chosen because this area is in need of development. “Housing loans shall not be something that is only available to people with high salaries” said Azeema.
“Even without housing the economy can grow. However the standard of living will improve when people have access to housing” said Azeema. In addition, Azeema said that it can be done only when housing policy is formed in this regard. Furthermore she said that it is important to provide loans at low rates to construction companies so that price of housing can be reduced.
She said that even the most ordinary people should have access to housing loans and the loan can be repaid with the money that person earns.
