Criminal Court has ruled that former Commissioner of Police Abdullah Riyaz was not guilty of obstructing the police.
The judge noted that the police arrested Abdullah Riyaz without a court order and hence it was unlawful. The judge noted that no one should obey an order that comes after an unlawful arrest.
Riyaz was arrested against the parliamentary privileges act. The judge said that any investigations that are conducted after an unlawful arrest will be invalid. In addition he said that some of the witnesses submitted by the state had contradictions in their statements.
It is likely that the state will appeal at the high court. When Riyaz requested to give a second chance as per the regulations, the state refused to give him one.
