MP for Kinbidhoo constituency Abdullah Riyaz have said that hopes of attaining justices from Maldivian Judiciary has increased. Speaking to the press after today’s trial at the criminal court the former CP said that his trail conducted by the Criminal Court was just starting from day one.
He said that the court noted down what he proposed and looked into it. He said that the court released the verdict based on the defence statements submitted by him.
“Many people suspected that the government wanted this case to end in a certain way. Because similar things happened in previous cases. My case was concluded with the consensus of the three judges on the bench” said Riyaz.
Riyaz said that he has been in law enforcement sector for 25 years and hence he will not do anything unlawful. He said that he will always work in accordance with the law. “I will always work for the nation. I assure that to the people” said Riyaz.
In addition he said that the government may accuse politicians of certain things and might try to fix them but he is well aware of these things. “JP leader Qasim’s case have been scheduled for tomorrow. Cases of other politicians are also going on. Especially cases of those who criticize the government are going on” said Riyaz.
He further said that if the courts are just the whole country will be just. He said that businessmen should have the chance to conduct businesses and get involved in politics. Riyaz said that however today it can be witnesses that the government is intimidating businesses.
Riyaz said that there are many problems in the nation. “ We trusted a lot and handed over the presidency to govern the nation justly. However corruption is on the rise, theft is on the rise. Oppression is on the rise. Those who made the coalition has left the government” said Riyaz.
Riyaz said that this is a victory for members who had the fear of getting arrested. “ This is a ray of hope. No one should be punished while being innocent” said Riyaz.
