Islamic education is important to save the society from illicit drugs : Dr.Shaheem
Chancellor of Islamic University of Maldives, Dr.Shaheem said that Islamic education is very important in saving the society from illicit drugs.

Speaking at the function held to mark the international day against illicit drugs, Dr.Shaheem said that some people portray Islamic education as extremism but it is not true. Dr.Shaheem said that Islamic education is teaching kids the difference between good and evil. He said that the parents, schools and teachers should be responsible in teaching kids these good manners.

In addition, Dr.Shaheem said that if someone repents after committing a crime, then that person should be accepted. He said that this is the way of Islam as well. He said that if given a chance, these people can become good people as well.

Showing evidence, he said that some young people who used drugs before have now become good people and frequents mosques. He said that such youth should be accepted by the society.

“We can see some of them praying in the front row in mosque. They say they are committed to do it. There may be many youth who is doing that. Hence we should accept and encourage them” Dr. Shaheem said.
