Education Minister Dr.Aishath Shiham have said that the BTEC program which has been introduced to all schools of Maldives is a huge success and it is a huge development for the nation.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of BTEC students which was held last night at Dharubaaruge, the education minister said that the program started with only 319 students and this year 3000 students registered to the program. She said that the program is being conducted in all the schools of Maldives and in 28 schools the program is offered up to A-Level standards.
Dr.Shihaam said that till 2014 more than 50 percent of the students who completed O Levels did not pass with good grades and hence these students do not get good opportunities.
She said that this results in various social problems. She said that not all students will be book smart and this program allows students to acquire different types of trainings. She said that she is happy that the program is well received among the public. She further said that this program is a success due to the priority given to it by President Yameen.
Some of the programs offered under BTEC include art and design, beauty therapy, hospitality, sports, business, engineering and construction.
