Will the case of 32 million offered to MP Falaah be investigated ?
Anti-Corruption Commission stated that they are investigating the case of 32 million Rufiyaa being offered to MP Falaah as bribes. They also said that the commission started investigating the case proactively.

It has been more than one year since they stated that they are investigating the member who confessed to distributing bags of money. So far, the commission has not revealed any details of that investigation. Police said that they are not investigating the case because ACC is investigating it.

Hence people are wondering how long it will take ACC to investigate MP Falaah’s case. Some people are saying that, they probably said that to prevent police from investigating the case. People are worried about the way the ACC is acting. For instance, it is likely that the members were lying. However, people are accusing the government of corruption because these cases were not investigated.

Recently President Yameen said that he will not obstruct the investigations conducted by any institution. He said that if the investigations are related to the president, even the office of the president is open for investigative authorities. He said that his permission is not required for such investigations.

This shows that the government will not obstruct investigations conducted by any independent institution. A senior official of the government said that the President’s Office sent a letter to the commission asking to conduct the investigations in a timely manner. “Everyone is worried that MMPRC case has not been investigated yet. President’s Office requested to finish that case even” said the official.

The second issue is another worrying issue. It seems that ACC have sped up investigating former President Maumoon. The investigations are based on the reports issued by the Auditor General in 2007. It has been 10 years now. Some people said that the government started investigating these cases because Maumoon is in the opposition now.

“ACC can come up with excuses. They can say that they were not able to investigate because Nasheed formed a commission to investigate it. However, ACC was never prevented from investigating the cases even back then” says a lot of people.

It is a huge problem that the relevant authorities have failed to take action based on audit reports. If actions are taken, those who claim to be innocent will not have this chance.

Maldivians have stopped using Two T engines. Yamaha have stopped manufacturing these engines. MTCC the Maldivian agent of Yamaha has worked with Yamaha to make a customized model for Maldives now. Maybe it is time for the government to adopt MTCC’s strategy with regards to governance.
