Former President Maumoon have said that the biggest problem in Maldives is that there is no rule of law now.
Speaking at the gathering held at Kunooz by the opposition tonight, Maumoon said that implementing rule of law is that the law should be implemented on everyone equally but in Maldives it is not the case.
“Rule of law is a fundamental principle of democracy. So there is no democracy in Maldives now” said Maumoon.
Maumoon said that all humans should be given the right to treatment but leader of JP Qasim Ibrahim has been deprived of this right. He said that no one should be treated this way. Maumoon also expressed concerns about how police are conducting their investigations and about the judiciary as well.
President Maumoon said that Faaris is being detain against the criminal procedures act. “I am happy that they did not find a jet inside his house. If they found a jet then a verdict will be issued like how a verdict was issued when a pistol was found” said Maumoon.
Maumoon also said that he is still the elected president of PPM and that he has not done anything for him to lose the position. “In 2013 I supported president Yameen and campaigned a lot. That is because he was the candidate of PPM. Now I regret doing that and I ask for forgiveness from all of you” said Maumoon.
President Maumoon called the government to be just and not to oppress anyone.
