STELCO has begun the 5th power development project. The project was officially inaugurated by the Managing Director of STELCO Ahmed Zuhoor. The project was contracted to Dongfung Electric Corporation of China.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony Zuhoor said that under the project the power plant at Hulhumale’ will be completed by mid-2018. He said that also design work of a second powerplant in Male’ will also be completed.
This will be the largest power development project in the Maldives and 104 million dollars will be spent on the project. Out of the total expenses 76 million dollars was given as a loan by the EXIM bank of China.
Hulhumale’ powerhouse will be able to produce 50megawatts of electricity. In addition, under this project Male’, Hulhule’ and Hulhumale’ will be connected to one distribution network.
