Home Minister Ahmed Azleen said that even though the opposition called for people from all over the Maldives to go to Male’ and protest, no once came because the people believe that the protest was unlawful.
Azleen said that even though some people are trying to fool the public the public cannot be fooled. He said that few people attended the protests because they are not aware of the laws. He said that peaceful assembly is allowed and police will not obstruct anyone from doing that.
In addition he said that President Yameen’s administration will uphold laws and police will not be issued any unlawful orders. Furthermore, he said that action will be taken against those who engage in unlawful activities.
Azleen said that they did not arrest anyone today but those who keep repeating will face consequences. The minister noted that it is the responsibility of the security services to provide security to the independent institutions and it is the responsibility of the President to ensure that security is provided.
No one from the atolls came for the protest because they accept it was unlawful – Home Minister
