MP of Villingili constituency Saud Hussein and MP for Maduvvari constituency Ameeth has been remanded for 15 days.
Ameeth’s lawyer Ali Zahir said that Ameeth was remanded for entering the parliament house, on 24th of this month. At the time EC has decided that Ameeth’s seat was vacant and hence the state says that Ameeth entered the premises of the parliament illegally as a private citizen.
Ali zahir said that the court did not accept anything Ameeth said in his defence. Ameeth said that it is the Supreme Court which will determine the validity of a parliament members tenure. In addition, the court refused to free him under bail even.
MP Saud was also remanded for the same reasons as Ameeth. In addition MP Waheed and MP Faaris have also been jailed. Waheed was also jailed for the same reasons as Ameeth and Saud while MP Faaris is in jail for allegedly bribing the opposition MPs to get support for speaker Maseeh’s censure motion.
