Vice President of Adaalath Party and lawyer Ali Zahir have said that four parliament members are being jailed due to the interference of other institutions into the Supreme Court’s authority. Ali Zahir said that this is a crime committed by these institutions.
Ali Zahir said that it is the Supreme Court which has the authority to dismiss a parliament member and no other institution can make decisions in this matter. Ali Zahir said that even though the constitution is very clear on this matter, the Elections Commission have interfered in this matter and that it is against the law. He said that the secretariat of the parliament also interfered in this matter unlawfully.
“They are doing this to weaken the constitution. Even Criminal Court has entered this and decided that they were not parliament members. Criminal Court has made decisions on a matter on which only Supreme Court has the authority to make decisions” said Ali Zahir.
Ali Zahir said that this reached to this state, because the Supreme Court is delaying making a decision. He said that the only way forward is for the Supreme Court to decide regarding the matter. “I believe that they should make a decision like how they reach a verdict within 48 hours when the state files a case” said Ali Zahir.
Ali Zahir said that the four parliament members are in jail today because of the Supreme Court. “Hence I am begging them to make a decision. I am sure that the Supreme Court will not issue a verdict which will dismiss these parliament members. It is very clear from the constitution. Hence I trust the Supreme Court in this regard” said Ali Zahir.
