Two PhD scholarships given to study a fisheries related field
Two PhD scholarships have been given to two people to study in a fisheries related field.

This scholarship was given by Fisheries Ministry and International Pole and Line Foundation. The purpose of the scholarship is to increase the capacity of Maldives in managing the fisheries industry of the Indian ocean.

The scholarships were awarded to Hussein Shinaan and Ahmed Riyaz Jauhary who are directors and the fisheries minister. Hussein Shinaan will research on the relations between schools of fish inside the area of Maldives and outside Maldives. He will be studying in Canada. Ahmed Riyaz Jauhary will be studying in France about common property rights.

The scholarships were awarded during a ceremony held at Fisheries Ministry. They were awarded by Dr.Shainee and the chairman of IEPNL John Burt.

Speaking at the ceremony, the minister said that fish products are decreasing in the oceans and hence it is important to fish in a sustainable manner.
