Nolhivaram constituency member of parliament Hussein Areef’s passport has been seized.
Criminal Court issued an order to withhold his passport stating that he is suspected of creating violence in the parliament on 31st July, which includes physical violence towards members of security services and other parliament members.
The court stated that the police received credible intelligence that Areef was planning to flee the country and hence if he leaves the country there will be difficulties in investigating the case.
Areef tweeted a copy of the court order saying that he does not plan to flee the country. In addition MP Mahloof’s passport also has been seized today.
