JP leader Qasim’s legal team has expressed concerns after the Criminal Court warns of continuing Qasim’s trial in absentia.
His legal team stated that the court accepted the letter sent by Qasim this morning half-heartedly. They said that they also submitted documents related to Qasim’s admission at the hospital this afternoon.
Lawyer Nooruh Salaam said that the hearing for this morning was cancelled but in the afternoon court officers went to the hospital and tried to give a summon order to Qasim personally. He said that the lawyers got it later and it stated that if Qasim fails to turn up at court, they will continue the trial in absentia.
The lawyer said that while the hearings of this case is not over, he does not know that in such a situation the trial can be continued in absentia.
In addition, he said that it is a constitutional right to attain healthcare for all citizens and also it is a right to defend one’s self in a court of law. He said that no one can be discriminated in terms of ensuring this right and he believes that Qasim should get these rights as well.
Even now Qasim is admitted at ADK Hospital.
