Doctors are helpless – If something happens to Qasim, the President should take responsibility: Sameer
Secretory General of JP, Ahmed Sameer have said that if something happens to JP Leader Qasim Ibrahim while the government keeps obstructing him to seek treatment, the President should take responsibility.

Sameer said that the doctors are helpless now and they even did an MRI yesterday to see that if there is anything else they can do. “Even after MRI the decision of the doctors didn’t change. They said that he cannot be treated without conducting the surgery. This is not a simple matter. Heart diseases are life threatening. The government is obstructing him in taking treatment while knowing this” said Sameer.

Sameer said that even though no one knows the time of death, Allah has ordered us to seek treatment if we get sick. Sameer said that this can be evident from the religious lecture organized by Islamic Ministry recently. “But what will we do today. Treatment is not available in Maldives. He is not allowed to leave Maldives. Can leave only when the passport is released. The judge is holding Qasim’s passport” said Sameer.

“There is no difference between preventing someone from breathing and not allowing Qasim to seek treatment” said Sameer.

In addition, he said that the Criminal Court has warned of continuing Qasim’s trial in absentia and hence now there is no point in preventing Qasim from leaving the country for the sake of the trial. “Shouldn’t he be allowed to leave the country for treatment. Can’t they continue the trial and issue a verdict? After his treatment, he will come and the VERDICT can be implemented?” questioned Sameer.

Sameer said that while a citizen of Maldives is facing a life-threatening situation, the state should be able to something about it. He said that the President should do something about it. He said that the Supreme Court should also be able to do something. He said that these authorities should answer themselves in front of Allah one day.

A lot of people are concerned about Qasim Ibrahim and are asking the state to allow Qasim to leave the country for treatment. However it seems that these calls are falling on deaf ears.
