Indian High Commission in the Maldives has celebrated the 71st Independence Day of India in Maldives. As the first activity, they held a ceremony to hoist the Indian flag.

The ceremony was attended by Indians living in the Maldives. During the ceremony, the Ambassador of India to Maldives, H.E Akhilesh Mishra read out statements issued by PM of India Narendura Modi and President of India Raam Naath Govindh.

During the ceremony, the ambassador noted the role of India as a developmental partner to the Maldives. He asked Indians living in the Maldives to serve Maldives as if it is their own country. He said that Indians and Maldivians are one and the same and they should always work together to strengthen the relations between the people of these two countries.

Even last year 50 young Maldivians went on a cultural exchange program to India.
The message by the President of India states that India is a developed country even now and the next step is retaining that development. He said that for that, the people of the country needs to be united and if not the sovereignty of the country will be at risk.

In addition, the statement noted the sacrifices made by Indian national heroes for their independence. He highlighted that people of all religions and political factions set aside their differences for the country.
