Gender Minister Zenesha Shaheed Zakee have said that they have decided to form a national action plan on violence against children.
She said that the action plan will be launched on 17th of this month at Kurumba Village during the closing ceremony of the national conference on preventing violence against children.
“Our aim is to start implementing the plan as soon as the plan is formed” said the minister.
In addition, the minister said that they will review how much they are able to implement the plan and then revise the plan based on it. She said that when awareness regarding violence towards children is increased, the number of reported cases increase as well.
She said that she hopes that the number of violent acts towards children decreases as a result of this action plan. Furthermore she said that every month more than one hundred case of child abuse are reported to the ministry. She said that in the first 6 months of this year, 600 cases of child abuse has been reported.
