Cultural activities conducted to celebrate the 71st Independence Day of India
Cultural activities have been conducted to celebrate the 71st Independence Day, of India. The activities were conducted at Billabong School.

Speaking at the function, the Indian Ambassador to Maldives H.E Akhilesh Mishra said that the campaign started by India to live as a united people is a strong campaign. He said that the 1.3 billon people of India will take part in this campaign.

In addition he said that no matter where the Indian citizen is, even if the citizen is in Maldives, that citizen will be part of this campaign.

Speaking about the statement issued by the Indian PM Modi on the occasion of the Independence Day, Akhilesh Mishra said that the citizens have the highest position in the country. He said that political positions are temporary but citizenship is permanent.

Akhilesh Mishra said that the close relations enjoyed between Maldives and India comes from the bottom of the hearts of the citizens of both countries. He said that no matter which positions Indians occupy in Maldives they always serve Maldives sincerely and that is how the relation between the countries are so strong.

The chief guest of the ceremony was the state minister for Economics, Abdul Latheef. The event was attended by many Indians living in the Maldives and foreign dipolomats.
