Commissioner General of Customs, Ibrahim Shareef Mohammed have said that Maldives Customs Service plays a key role in doing beneficial things for the nation but some people try to bring in undue influences on the institution.
In a ceremony held last night to celebrate the 127th anniversary of Customs, Ibrahim Shareef said that in a globalized world, such things can be seen, but Customs will continue to save the institution from such influences and try to provide their services sincerely. He said that Customs is attaining success in this regard.
Shareef noted that Customs is doing a lot of work to provide services that can cater for the expanding businesses and foreign investments in the Maldives.
Customs service started in the Maldives on 18th July 1890. Back then it was called “Bandaara Fihaara”. Today there are branches of Customs in some atolls. Maldives Customs Service is a member of World Customs Organization. Due to the work done by Customs to develop their staffs, today staffs of Maldivian Customs are facilitators in international conferences.
Services of Maldives Customs are of world class. Submission of documents and managing the documents are developed to international standards.
The chief guest of last night’s ceremony as Vice President Abdullah Jihad. Home Minister Azleen who is the customs Minister also took part in the function.
