President Yameen has submitted Mohamed Hussein Shareef’s name to the parliament as the new Maldivian ambassador to Sri Lanka.
At the moment Mohammed Hussein Shareef is the Maldivian Ambassador to Japan. He was appointed to the post on 16th August 2016. He officially started his tenure as ambassador on 19th December 2016.
Mohammed Hussein Shareef served the government for 17 years. Previously he worked in the foreign relations department of the President’s Office during the Maumoon administration. He also worked as the spokesperson of the government.
In addition, he was the youth minister of President Waheed’s administration. He was also a minister at the President’s office of the current government. He resigned from his post all of a sudden and the reasons behind his resignation has not been revealed.
In tomorrow’s session of the parliament, his name will be presented to the floor for approval. Mohammed Hussein Shareef is being appointed as the Maldivian Ambassador to Sri Lanka because the government has decided not to renew the term of the current Ambassador Zahiya Zareer.
