Home Minister Azleen Ahmed have said that Maldives Customs Service has confiscated 81 kilograms of narcotics since last year and that this shows the work Customs is doing to bring stability to the country.
Speaking at a ceremony held last night to mark the 127th anniversary of Customs, the minister said that last year 57 kilograms of narcotics were confiscated and this year 24 kilograms have been seized.
He also noted the role played by Customs in generating revenue for the state.
The minister said that the revenue earned by the state has increased since the government assumed office and the GDP has been doubled through a lot of work. Azleen said that while there are investments worth millions of dollars, it has created many new jobs and that people make more money now.
