It is a high priority of the government to maintain the quality of higher education : Education Minister
Education Minister Dr.Aishath Shiham have said that it is a high priority for the government of Maldives to maintain the quality of higher education.

Speaking at a ceremony held to launch the master plan for higher education in Maldives, the minister said that to maintain the quality of education, Maldives Accreditation Board was formed in 2000 and in 2010 it was changed to Maldives Qualification Authority.

In addition she said that the framework for national certificates were formed in 2009 and under the master plan more action will be taken to maintain the quality of higher education.

The minister said that research shows that, there are three categories of higher education and they are elite, mass and universal higher education. She said that if age group participation is lower than 15 percent then it is seen as elite higher education system. She said that if the percentage is up to 50 percent then it is a mass higher education system and if it is above 50 percent than it is a universal education system. She said that the system in Maldives is moving towards a mass higher education level.

“Our target is to have universal higher education in Maldives. This shows that the pledge made by the government to facilitate higher education to all students who qualify, is being delivered” said the minister.
