Everyone who believes in justice is concerned about the jail sentence on Qasim Ibrahim. People of different fields are saying that the verdict was unlawful.
People are also worried that Qasim has still not been allowed to leave the country for treatment and worried about the delays in sending Qasim abroad.
Even the court verdict acknowledges the fact that Qasim is ill. The verdict states that the verdict shall not be an obstruction for Qasim to attain treatment.
Qasim has been sentenced to jail for three years 2 months and 12 days. He has not been treated with this verdict. He can be treated from abroad only. Three hospitals in Maldives has issued statements referring him abroad.
Everyone believes that his life will be in danger if treatment is delayed. When JP deputy leader Ameen Ibrahim stated that, Broadcasting Commission condemned that. They even warned VTV for reporting it on the news. Such warnings can be given, but such warnings will not heal Qasim Ibrahim.
There is a Human Rights Commission in the Maldives as well. We do not know what they are doing regarding this matter. They have not said anything about it. No one knows why they are silent. People are not sure in what circumstances the Commission is concerned about the people, because they have not said anything about the denial of medical service to Qasim.
If they HRCM are not worried about a patient whose medical treatment as been blocked and when his life is in real dager what will bother them? Funerals? Tea Parties?
People are saying that Qasim is alive due to the prayers of the people. On the day of judgement, people will not have to answer to the state institutions, but the leaders of these institutions will have to answer on that day. They will get rewarded or punished based on how they conducted in this world.
