Supreme Court of the Maldives have stated that only they have the authority to unseat parliament members.
People are saying that the verdict issued by the Supreme Court in the case filed against the Elections Commission by Saud Hussein, Mohamed Ameeth, Mohammed Waheed and Abdul Latheef is unclear.
Lawyers of the opposition are saying that the four members did not lose the seats because the Supreme Court’s verdict shows that only they have the authority to make a decision regarding the matter.
Lawyer Shameem said that he believes that the Supreme Court should make a very clear decision regarding the matter. He said that even though from the verdict it is evident that the members did not lose their seats.
Some members who entered the parliament are also being charged for entering the parliament without permission because they were unseated by the Elections Commission.
Some lawyers said that the Supreme Court judges did not agree on a verdict on this matter.
