Elections Commission announces bi-elections in 4 areas.!
Elections Commission has decided to conduct bi-elections in Thulusdhoo, Villingili, Maduvvari and Dhihdhoo constituency.

Elections Commission stated that they decided to go ahead with the elections because, they believe that the Supreme Court’s verdict indicates that their decision to unseat 4 parliament members of these constituencies was lawful.

The opposition and the government are interpreting the Supreme Court’s verdict in two different ways. Supporters of the government have said that based on the Supreme Court’s verdict, the four opposition members have lost their seats. However, the opposition keeps saying that the four members did not lose their seats.

People are saying that the verdict of the Supreme Court is not clear. People are concerned that the Supreme Court’s verdict is vague. Speaking about the matter, lawyer Ali Hussein said that the Elections Commission is defying the verdict of the Supreme Court by deciding to hold bi-elections. He said that hence he believes that the Supreme Court will take action regarding the matter.
