The recent verdict issued by the Supreme Court regarding the case submitted by the four parliament members who were unseated by the Elections Commissions, is a threat to media as well.
That is because the verdict is being interpreted in two different ways. Since it is an offence to interpret a Supreme Court verdict incorrectly, it is hard for media to report the correct interpretation. The interpretation from both sides are very different.
The government keeps saying that the four members lost the seat, while the opposition is saying that they did not lose their seats. It is a crime to report incorrect news about the Supreme Court verdicts no matter who the source is.
When Miadhu News, requested for help from Judicial Administration regarding the matter they said that the only thing they can do is narrating the verdict for Miadhu News. They asked to write a letter if further clarification is needed.
Miadhu News has now sent a letter to the Chief Justice of Maldives regarding the matter.
