WHO has praised the development brought to the health sector of Maldives.
In the 70th regional meeting of WHO, the regional director of WHO, Poonam said that Maldives has made significant achievements in eradicating diseases like filaria, malaria and measles.
In addition Dr.Poonam praised the decision taken by the government to increase taxes on energy drinks and tobacco. Dr.Poonam said that WHO praises the investments made by the government to develop the health sector.
Speaking at the meeting, Health Minister Abdullah Nazim said that the expenditure on health sector has increased by 130 percent in this administration. In addition he said that the amount spent by citizens on health services has been reduced by 50 percent and this is a development brought by the government.
The WHO regional meeting will go on till 10th of this month.
