Environment Minister Mohammed Thoriq have said that all developmental projects will have some impact on the environment and that the target should be to reduce the impact.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of Maldives Marine Expo 2017, the minister said that the government gives permission to conduct projects after taking environmental impact in to consideration.
He said that even now the government has created various regulations aimed at protecting the environment and more will be created in future. Thoriq said that however these regulations will be beneficial only if everyone works together to implement it.
In addition, the minister said that Maldives is doing a lot to protect the environment in an international level. He said that the work that is being done by Maldives is well recognized internationally.
