Opposition coalition have called the government of Maldives to allow JP Leader Qasim Ibrahim to stay in Singapore as long as the doctors recommend since Qasim’s health is in a serious condition.
Speaking at press conference held today, MP of Maduvvari constituency Muhammad Ameeth said that it is not clear why Maldives Correctional Service is hesitating to extend Qasim’s stay in Singapore even after international doctors issued a statement explaining that Qasim needs to be treated.
Ameeth said that no one will be allowed to enter into a country if they do not have proper travel documents to stay for three months. He said that Qasim was allowed to enter into Singapore with travel document valid only for 10 days because his wife has a work visa in Singapore.
Ameeth said that even though the government claims to be sincere regarding Qasim, he does not believe that the government is sincere. “When doctors say that they need three months, I do not believe that a politician can change it to ten days” said Ameeth.
In addition, he said that Qasim never said that he will not return to Maldives but is only asking to let him stay for three months to get treatment. He said that hence the government should allow it. Ameeth said that if the government is sincere then they should facilitate it.
