Gender Minister Zeneesha Shaheed Zaki have said that the senior citizens of Maldives have contributed to the development of various sectors in the country.
She made this statement while speaking at a function held to mark the International Day for Older Persons. She said that the development we see today is the result of the hard work done by today’s elderly population during their prime. She said that hence we should recognize their work and be proud of it.
In addition, she said that the elderly citizens need the love and care since they have spent their young age in building the country.
“Sometimes we see sad situations from our society. Sometimes we see that elderly people are discriminated and disrespected. There are people in our society who assume that those who are in the retirement age are useless and counterproductive” said Zeneesha the youngest cabinet minister of Maldives.
