Singapore Airlines, the airlines assigned by the government of Maldives for Qasim Ibrahim to return to Maldives has refused to board Qasim without the permission of the doctors.
The doctors did not give permission because they say that Qasim is unfit to travel and it might endanger his life.
Maldives Correctional Service informed Qasim Ibrahim’s family that they cannot extend the deadline and that Qasim should return to Maldives and handover himself to Corrections.
Secretory General of JP, Ahmed Sameer said that, even though Qasim’s lawyers have filed a case in the Civil Court because Corrections is not abiding by the Criminal Court order to facilitate Qasim’s treatment, the government is not taking this into consideration.
“When Qasim Ibrahim inquired about the issue to the President and the Home Minister, they said that Correctional Service is responsible for this and that they are acting in accordance with the law. Now we are out of options” said Sameer.
Sameer said that many problems will be faced if government refuses to extend Qasim’s stay in Singapore and if Singapore Airlines refuses to board Qasim. “If he is staying in Singapore like that then there will be problems related to over stay. Qasim might even be jailed in Singapore. There is nothing we can do” said Sameer.
In addition he said that while doctors of Singapore are world class doctors, it is questionable why Maldivian government refuses to accept the recommendations by the doctors. “The doctors have repeatedly said that Qasim’s life will be in danger if he travels. So if the government insists Qasim to travel back to Maldives, the government’s sincerity is questionable. We think that they want Qasim to die in whatever way possible” said Sameer.
