Ibrahim Hassan the MP for Thoddoo constituency have called to taxes on guest houses.
He said that the PPM parliamentarians also supports to charge the same rates for electricity in the atolls as Male’. He said that is also important to reduce the various charges on guest houses as well.
Ibrahim Hassan said that guest houses are developed by ordinary citizens through loans and the industry is still in the early stages. “It is not possible to get guests as soon as a guest house is developed. It is not possible to make revenue. Hence, if guest houses are charged at the same rates as resorts then a lot of problems will arise” said Evila.
Ibrahim Hassan said that unless the guest houses get some incentives, then the industry will not develop. He said that hence he believes that the government should focus on the issue.
A lot of people in Thoddoo constituency are active in the guest house industry now.
