Maldives Police Service has started the work of brining back Qasim Ibrahim back to Maldives from Singapore. Qasim went to Singapore for medical treatment.
A media official from the Police Service said that, the police is providing assistance to Maldives Correctional Service in bringing back Qasim to Maldives. However, the official refused to reveal any details.
The deputy leader of JP, Abdullah Riyaz said that the government wants to intimidate Qasim by jailing him. He said that the government is doing that because the government is desperate to win the 2018 elections.
“Government wants to intimidate opposition leaders. However we are not going to back down. We took an oath in the name of Allah and hence we will do whatever we have to do for the people. Government can jail all of us. But they cannot jail all the citizens. When they jail one group another group will rise up” said Riyaz.
Riyaz said that the support of people cannot be gained by being oppressive. He said that obstructing Qasim from receiving treatment is clearly oppression. He said that there is nothing the government can gain by oppressing someone like Qaisim who is loved by thousands of people across the country.
