A ministerial meeting of Alliance of Small Island States is to be held in the Maldives from 10th to 11th October. Energy ministers from AOSIS countries and donors will take part in the meeting.
Speaking to the press today at the Environment Ministry, Minister Thoriq said that ministers from 17 countries will take part in the meeting. In addition, he said total 70 delegates will take part in the meeting including senior officials of the governments of AOSIS and representatives of donor agencies.
Furthermore, he said that this meeting was an initiative taken by Maldives as the chair of AOSIS. He said that they will discuss about getting funding for renewable sources of energy, and about disaster mitigation plans. “Frequent storms are a result of climate change” said Thoriq.
He said that Paris Agreement was formed with the initiative of Maldives as well and that Maldives is doing a lot of work to implement the agreement. He said that that Maldives will remain in doing this work.
“The world has recognized our efforts and we get assistance of larger countries” said Thoriq.
