Maldivian Red Crescent Concludes the Call for Donations Towards Rakhine State Refugees via IFRC’s Emergency Appeal
On 6th September 2017, Maldivian Red Crescent opened up the opportunity to donate funds for the Emergency Appeal by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), to support communities from the Rakhine State of Myanmar seeking refuge in Bangladesh.

The call for donations was opened from 6th September 2017 till 30th September 2017. Today, as we officially conclude the call, we are pleased to announce that the Maldivian Red Crescent received MVR 7, 046,555.37 (USD 458,142) as donations towards the IFRC Emergency Appeal which aims to mobilize USD 3,000,000 to support 100,000 refugees.

This is a remarkable collective effort by the Maldivian community with significant support from local councils, businesses, civil society organizations and numerous concerned individuals.

This contribution will be directed, on behalf of the Maldivian People, to the IFRC Emergency Appeal in two installments, the first of which amounting to USD 242,800has already been transferred. The final installment will be made by mid-October. The donation will be utilized towards supporting aid efforts by the IFRC and Bangladesh Red Crescent Society focusing on the following sectors: water,sanitation, food security and provision of medical services.

The Maldivian Red Crescent will closely monitor the utilization of this donation by various means in engagement with IFRC and will report back to the Maldivian community regularly.
