President Yameen have said that it is the senior citizens who brought the country to this level and that he will always value their service to the country.
Speaking to the senior citizens at Rasfannu last night, the president said that the senior citizens played the most important part of nation building and they made lots of sacrifices for that.
“Huge waves in the Indian ocean are breaking on to the shores of Maldives. The closest neighbors and countries from further away tried to invade our country. 3rd November is the most recent case of the kind. It was the senior citizens who saved Maldives that day” said the President.
President Yameen also did something unprecedented for a president of Maldives. He praised former presidents Mohammed Ameen, Ibrahim Nasir and Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom. He praised and thanked for their services to the nation. He also praised the leaders who served the country during Maumoon administration.
In addition, he said that the airport is being developed to a capacity that can cater for 8 million passengers. He said that the airport has humble beginnings and it became a reality with the sweat and blood of senior citizens. He said that such services should be valued.
President said that while there are many youths in senior positions of the country, it is the senior citizens who facilitated that. Furthermore, the president stressed on the importance of respecting senior citizens. He said that this was the third time he is meeting with senior citizens and he is doing that to value their services to the nation.
