Ground breaking ceremony of SME building at Hulhumale’ has been held today. The chief guest of the ceremony was Economic Minister Mohammed Saeed and Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer.
Speaking at the ceremony, Economic Minister Saeed said that the building will be opened in June 2018 and 120 SMEs can work at the building. He said that there will be factories for different products as well.
In addition he said that this building will provide jobs for youths who migrate to Hulhumale and youths who are living there. He said that when SMEs work the whole country will benefit from it.
Minister Saeed said that there are projects worth 3 billion dollars being conducted in Male’ area alone and such projects does not need staffs only but businesses as well. He said that this building will enable that.
Furthermore, he said that one policy of the government is to develop 5 products that will have a stable market and this building will pave way for that as well. The minister said that there will be facilities to manufacture products like soft toys and sun lotion in the building. He said that there is opportunity for small and medium enterprises in the Maldives and even recently around 700 people sent proposals worth 1 billion.
“The economy of Maldives is expanding. Even this year 10 new flights have started operating to Maldives. Investments are increasing. All these things are connected to business opportunities” said the minister.
