Education Minister Dr.Aishath Shiham have said that the days where sports were seen only as entertainment are now gone.
She said that now it is a profession now and not something people do to pass time. She said that, previously when kids play around some might have a natural talent at some sport but they will not get that much opportunities to develop it.
She said that in contrast, today such students with talents are given more opportunities to develop their talent and they are encouraged to pursue in that sport. “ This is part of the President’s vision to create a generation which will make the country proud internationally through sports. Today we see the results of this policy. I thank the President for this” said the minister.
Dr.Shiham said that previously Maldivians took part in international sporting events because they had to saying that such opportunities will be a good experience.
