Fuad Thaufeeq the former Elections Commissioner have said that he is ready to become the opposition candidate in 2018.
Speaking to RajjeTV he said that if the political parties make such a request he is ready to do it as someone who is always ready to serve the country.
He said that he has no personal intention of doing something like this. “I will embark on such a journey when I am sure that I have the support of President Nasheed, President Maumoon, Qasim Ibrahim and Sheikh Imran” said Fuad.
He said that if he is asked to do this he will think about it and make a decision. He said that so far no one has asked him about this. Fuad said that based on the situation of Maldives now, the opposition can win if they come with one candidate.
Meanwhile former President Mohammed Nasheed have said that the opposition should back one candidate and that the candidate should be an interim president.
