Transport Department of the UK has donated explosive trace detectors to Maldives. In a ceremony held at Coast Guard Building, the Defence Minister said that these machines will be used in Velana International Airport starting from next week and the main purpose of the machines is to improve the security of the airport and to ensure the safety of the passengers.
“The government gives a high priority to the safety of airports. Hence now the army will monitor the airports” said the minister.
The minister said that their main target is to ensure that each airplane that departs from Maldives leaves Maldives after getting fully screened.
In addition 20 people who completed aviation supervisor course were given certificates during this ceremony.
