Defense Minister thanks Japan for donating equipment to mitigate disasters
Defense Minister Adam Shareef Umar have thanked the government of Japan for donating equipment to mitigate disasters. He thanked the Japanese government while speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the National Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction.

He said that the equipment includes devices that can be used in cases of floods, fires and also vehicles and vessels.

The minister said that this equipment will be sent to regional head quarters of MNDF and this will improve the work done by MNDF during times of crisis.

Japan assists the most to the Maldives in the field of disaster risk reduction. Even the protective sea wall around Male’ was also constructed with the help of Japan.

On 18th of this month, Japan also donated medical equipment worth MVR 14 million to Maldives. Today’s ceremony was attended by Japanese Ambassador to Maldives.
