Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer have said that the quality of investments made by Maldivians are much higher and that they are more sustainable.
Speaking at the ceremony held to officially inaugurate Dhaalu Airport, the minister said that he is not belittling foreign investors but that this is the truth.
The minister said that even though the airport could be developed with 15 million dollars, the investors of the project invested 25 million dollars to make the airport a high standard one.
In addition the minister said that there are 1500 tourist beds in Dhaalu atoll and that the figure is expected to increase to 3000 once the new resorts in the region are opened next year. The minister said that this airport will play a vital role in bringing tourists to the region and it will benefit the whole atoll.
Furthermore, tourism minister said that the aim of the government is to develop airports across the country so that each island is within 30 minutes of the nearest airport. He said that with the developing tourism sector the jobs are increasing as well.
He said that even now there is difficulty in getting trained people for many jobs including at airports. “In 1980s it was difficult to obtain higher education but today such opportunities are there” said the minister.
Minister Zameer noted that even now the government is conducting various programs to train people needed for various jobs and the efforts will be increased in the upcoming year.
