French Ambassador to Maldives Jean Marin have said that the scheduled flights of Air France to Maldives will further connect the two countries.
Speaking at the ceremony held yesterday to welcome the first flight of Air France to Maldives, the ambassador said that since tourism was introduced in Maldives in 1970s, Maldives has been one of the most popular destination for Europeans. He said that even now there are 4 resorts in Maldives managed by French companies.
The ambassador said that the scheduled flights will not only help the tourism sector, but it will help the fisheries sector as well. He noted that France purchases a lot of fish from Maldives. He also said that last year alone 40,000 French tourists visited Maldives and that the figure is increasing.
Speaking at the ceremony the Senior Vice President of Air France, Welmer Blom said that it was an achievement for the airline to start operations to a famous destination like Maldives.
Blom said that they will use Boeing 720 flights to Maldives and that it will have 28 seats in the business class with full privacy. In addition he said that the premium economy class will have 24 seats and economy class will have 260 seats.
